3. Are you bothered by touch?
There are plenty of people that do not want to be touched by somebody that they do not know. They may have had a bad experience in the past and feel anxious about being touched by a stranger, even if it is a professional massage therapist. Some people simply do not like being touched.
Even if someone doesn’t like being touched by another person, they may still be interested in the benefits of a massage. A massage chair would be a great option for them because they would never have to be touched by another person.
Still, it is important to realize how therapeutic human touch can be.
If you are avoiding massages because of trauma, it may be good to work your way through it with the help of professionals. If you want to get away with an hour or more of massage then the spa is definitely for you.
The spa could be your opportunity to step away for just a little while and become rejuvenated before returning back to real life.
5. Do you think that you would benefit from the therapeutic relationship?
Relationships, of course, are very important. Think about the relationships in your life. Are they mostly happy? Are there some relationships that leave you feeling drained? Do you tend to give a lot in relationships?
Sometimes, things get off balance in relationships and you end up feeling drained. If this is the case, it may be good to work with a professional massage therapist because the relationship has clear lines and the focus is on healing.
This can be deeply beneficial, especially if you tend to ignore your own needs because you focus so much on helping others. However, if you are having serious mental issues, make sure that you talk to a medical doctor or a psychologist.
Another benefit of working with a massage therapist is that the communication can help you get the most out of your massage.
You can let them know if there is something that you really don’t like, or if the pressure is too hard. Because of this, in some ways, a massage from a therapist at the spa can be more tailored than that from a massage chair.
Of course, you may not be interested in developing a professional relationship with a massage therapist at all. You may simply want to relax and not have to worry about it. If this is the care, then a massage chair may be best for you.
