No one loves a good ear massage more than a dog. Just pay attention the next time you see someone rubbing them behind their ears. Notice the far off, dazed look in their eyes. Observe how their mouth hangs slightly open in a state of unconcerned bliss. Perceive how their little paws hang almost lifelessly in the air.
Of course, human and dog ears are radically different- we don’t hear the range of frequencies that they can and we don’t have quite the range of motion that they do in the ears. We can, however, enjoy a good ear massage.
Learning how to massage your ears is a great asset because it is:

If you are at work or at school and want to take a quick, relaxing break, you could give yourself an ear massage. Unlike massage chairs or spa trips, you don’t have to invest any money to get the benefits. This really is a massage therapy that you could enjoy any time that you want (Except when you are driving. Please do not massage your ears when your are driving!).

But is an ear massage effective?
Even though an ear massage is like a miniature version of a massage, there is evidence that it can help you relax. In one study, smokers that were in the process of quitting were taught how to massage their hands and also their ears.

It is an incredibly demanding process to quit smoking, which is why people many times have to try several times before they are successful.
However, when the smokers were taught the hand and ear massage, the quitting process was easier (or perhaps it would be better to say “less difficult”) for them. They experienced less anxiety, fewer cravings, an improved mood, and even smoked fewer cigarettes.
It is incredible that the smokers experienced such great results with such a relatively small intervention. Even though an ear massage is only for a small part of your body, it can still come with great results.
