Could cherries be the key to good health, longevity, and happiness?

These small fruits seem too delicious to be anything besides a treat, but there is some evidence that it could have potent healing properties.

Tart cherry juice can potentially benefit the body in many different ways. However, it is not yet fully understood by research.

In this review, I will share what we know about tart cherry juice as well as my own personal experience taking Dynamic Health Tart Cherry Juice over a couple of years.

How Tart Cherry Juice Works

Tart cherry juice is full of healthy ingredients that allegedly lead to better sleep, reduced pain, and improved heart health. It is naturally rich in melatonin, the sleep hormone, making it a reasonable choice as a sleep aid.

It also contains anthocyans, a very powerful antioxidant that gives the tart cherry juice its beautiful, deep red color. Anthocyans purportedly have many health benefits including improving vision, protecting against cancer, enhancing memory, and guarding against heart disease. Researchers do not completely understand how anthocyans work but do know that they tend to work with the other chemicals in the body rather than independently.

Tart cherry juice also contains a pigment called quercetin which has antioxidant properties. There is some evidence that quercetin can reduce pain but, like the anthocyans, there is very little scientific evidence for its benefits.

Because so little is know about how tart cherry juice works, there is some debate about the appropriate amount to take. 2 tablespoons is the serving size on the container (if you buy the 32 oz container, it will take about a month for you to use it up).

My Experience With Tart Cherry Juice

Dynamic Health Tart Cherry JuiceFor most of my life, I have had sleep issues. I am naturally a night owl so I tend to have issues falling asleep at night making it difficult for me to wake up in the morning.

When I was in high school, it would typically take me more than an hour to fall asleep at night and my issues would be exaggerated in the morning.

As I got older, my issues only got worse. At one point, I improved my sleep hygiene to the extent that I could go to bed at 10 pm and wake up at 6 am, but it felt like I was in a haze throughout the day.

I started to take sleep aids, but knew that they were not a long term solution. Then one day, my mom called and told me that she heard Dr. Oz talking about the benefits of tart cherry juice. I was highly skeptical that it could be effective for me but decided to give it a try.

I was able to fall asleep 20 minutes after getting into bed taking this. My sleep would be very deep and comfortable and I would wake up refreshed. I also didn’t feel drowsy in the morning with this like how I would with some other sleep aids (though I suggest being careful with driving until you know how it affects you).

One benefit that I was unaware of when I started taking the tart cherry juice was its ability to reduce pain. I have a chronic aching pain in my right knee that comes and goes because I hit it against a sharp edge years ago.

This pain tends to get much worse in the cold weather. To be honest, I didn’t notice when the pain went away, but when I stopped taking the tart cherry juice for a couple of months, I certainly noticed when it came back.

One thing that I did not expect was that drinking the tart cherry juice got me into a really nice routine at night.

I liked to put 2 tbps of the tart cherry juice into a cup of hot water with a little bit of sugar to make it perfectly sweet. I would make my mug of tart cherry juice about an hour before I went to sleep and would spend the hour either wrapping up any work around the house or quietly reading a book before I got into the bed. After doing this for about a month, I found that I was really looking forward to my evenings.

One last benefit of the tart cherry juice is that it is delicious.

Some people will just drink it in water or take it from a spoon, but I think that doing that is a waste.

The taste of cherries is very strong and pure and it is indeed very tart. It definitely adds a nice flavor to sweet foods. In the fall, I love putting a couple of tablespoons of it into a mug of hot apple cider.

It also tastes amazing swirled into vanilla ice cream or added to old favorites. Just imagine drizzling a little into an apple pie just before baking it.


Drawbacks Of Tart Cherry Juice

Even though I am a huge fan of tart cherry juice, it isn’t for everyone. Since it is a supplement, it may interact with some medications. If you are taking medications, you should consult a health professional to make sure that it if safe to take.

It is also tough to take tart cherry juice on trips since it needs to be refrigerated. The packaging for the 32 oz size is robust, but occasionally the juice is dark brown on arrival. It should always be a deep dark red, never brown. Thankfully, this product is available through Amazon prime which has an excellent return policy.

Lastly, tart cherry juice is delicious but don’t overdo it. It can upset your stomach if you drink too much.

  1. I have heard tart cherry juice to be health with many health benefits, besides it tastes great which makes it even easier to drink more of.

    I am a big fruit eater, I love when the fresh cherries are available in my area and buy as many as I can eat. We should eat more fruits of all kinds, they all have their own special health benefits.

  2. I wasn’t aware that cherry juice had so many benefits. I like that it helps with your heart and helps reduce pain.
    I always like to do things the natural way.
    What interests me the most is the melatonin in cherries. I would love to try this to sleep better at night. Does it have to be mixed with warm water and sugar to have the same effect? I don’t like anything warm to drink and being a diabetic I’m watching my sugar so that’s important.
    So is there another way to take it?

    • Yes, you can mix it into a cup of water or just take 2 tablespoons like medicine (I will warn you that the tart cherry juice has some sugar of its own- 14g for 2 tablespoons). It is quite tart on its own.
